#Pobice - Rules

The following rules have been designed to allow the channel to run smoothly and in a sensible manner. The rules will be enforced by the channel operators in a way they see fit. Although this document attempts to be as comprehensive as possible, there will always be room for interpretation, and the Ops have the duty of making such interpretations as fairly as possible, and not necessarily to the 'letter of the law', but rather in the spirit of the channel.

Legitimate reports of any rule violations (particularly of rules 2,4,5,9,12 or 13) may be sent to any Op in a chat message, and genuine reports could result in the offending user being subject to sanctions. However, abuse of this system by pestering ops for a particular user to be booted without good cause could result in you yourself receiving a warning or kick.

Sanctions

Those in violation of any rules will be subject to any combination of the punishments listed below, depending on the severity and frequency of offence:

Withdrawal of +o, +v or +u status
Removed from the channel
Banned temporarily for a fixed period (tempban)
Banned indefinitely from the channel

For less serious offences, offenders will recieve a warning message before any actions are taken.

Serious Offences

Violation of the following set of rules constitutes a serious offence and will generally be punishable by an immediate ban:

Extremely explicit sexual or racial references (eg. cunt, clit, nigger, spic, gook) are prohibited in nicknames and also are not to be used in the channel.
Strong personal attacks against ANY regular users will not be tolerated. If a user asks that a personal topic should not be discussed in the channel, other users must respect this or face lengthy bans even for a 'first offence'.
Advertising for phone sex, anal sex, or talking about rape in a manner offensive to the victim or any one else in the channel, is not allowed.
No flooding or spamming the channel or any user in the channel with CTCPs, messages, actions, text, or DCC CHAT/SEND requests (although of course files specifically requested by legitimate users can be sent only to those who have expressed the wish to receive them).
Ping flooding, "nuking", ICMP/UDP flooding, smurfing, using NetBus / Back Orifice / DMSETUP against, or otherwise denying service to any user or Op will result in an immediate ban.

Minor Offences

Infringement of any of the following rules is considered less seriously than infringement of those above, however frequently ignoring these will also lead to the more significant sanctions being applied in extreme cases.

Repeating the same message in the channel more than 5 times in 1 minute, including text floods, personal "self ads", messages to other users, or similar will be punished by a Warning Kick. Keep it up and you will get banned, so don't complain!
TALKING IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS (all caps) is considered SHOUTING and is rude and insensitive. Excessive use of ALL CAPS will result in a warning kick and if you keep doing it we will ban you so fast you'll forget you were ever in the channel.
Asking for Op (+o) or Voice (+v) Status is not allowed. If we want you to have Ops or Voice we will provide this at our discretion; persistent begging will result in a can of whoop ass being opened. Most Ops and Voice in the channel are now given automatically to regular visitors, as they constitute a position of trust.
Running invite, message, or notice scripts that message a user as they join or part the channel is strictly forbidden and will result in a Ban. This of course does not include the channel running scripts, which are included with the special Pob Chat version of mIRC.
Using Comic mode on MS Chat will result in a kick. 3 strikes and you're out for good.
Users must identify themselves to any P-Team members on request. Falsely identifying yourself or refusal to provide an answer at all will result in a ban. The channel is based on trust in order to retain users' privacy. Imitating other users in order to obtain private information etc will be treated seriously. We reserve the right to retain records of your name, nick and server addresses for future reference, in any form (electronic or otherwise) that we see fit.
Advertising of personal services not directly applicable or related to the website or channel conversation will result in a warning, and repeated advertising will result in a warning kick or ban. Spamming in the channel or advertising services of a sexual or offensive nature is strictly prohibited and could result in immediate ban.
Generally misusing the channel by acting in any way other than in the spirit of the conversation and using the channel as it is intended, is not allowed and offenders will be warned accordingly.

Notes

Please note that all channel activity is logged, primarily for purposes of compiling the channel stats page, but we are able to view transcripts of channel activity after the event if required. Therefore, if you feel you have been the victim of a violation of any rules at a time when no channel Ops were present, please drop us an e-mail as we may be able to apply sanctions to the offender at a later date.

Also, being given +o or +v status allows you certain privileges in the channel, such as setting topics. However, these are positions of trust, and abuse will result in such privileges being withdrawn. Although 'all Ops are equal', we are able to restore control of the channel very easily in the event of hostile take-over attempts: so don't even try it or you're very unlikely to receive Op status again. Being an Op does not give you the right to abuse these rules yourself.
